Hey Everyone!
Sydney Dutson
15:21
We also have a new audio message feature!
Robin Sachs
16:41
They use this more than the Inbox feature?
mcoull
17:38
you will probably answer this, I don't see my classes in Pronto right now, will they show up once I publish the courses?
Jim Julius (he/him)
18:27
Yes, Mariann, publishing course is necessary for Pronto to become active for the course.
Serena Mercado
18:52
@Robin, it's definitely personal preference. But a lot of my students prefer pronto.
Jim Julius (he/him)
19:57
For folks looking for Pronto instructions for MiraCosta faculty, check out https://tic.miracosta.edu/pronto/
Serena Mercado
20:14
They definitely prefer to ask quick questions to the whole class vs using a discussion board because they are more likely to get a quick response from others
Shane Anderson
21:08
100% would have done the same thing.
Serena Mercado
23:05
That's awesome!
Serena Mercado
31:45
And it makes sure that everyone knows how to DM you, if needed later
mcoull
32:14
I love it when the students say- "I am taking this class because I have to..." 😂
Angela Beltran-Aguilar
32:24
And how to block someone who they don't want messaging them (just in case)
Angela Beltran-Aguilar
34:41
When you join from your smart phone/tablet using the Pronto app, you can flip your camera and show your desk/notebook.
Sydney Dutson
35:14
Love that suggestion Angela!
Angela Beltran-Aguilar
35:29
@Lauren, any idea if the screen share will be updated (being able to screen share from smart phone/tablet and being able to annotate when screen sharing)
Sydney Dutson
36:20
@Angela, no update on that yet. We will be sure to submit that request to our product team
Angela Beltran-Aguilar
37:16
Thanks Sydney! It would be awesome to be able to annotate screen shares.
Angela Beltran-Aguilar
44:12
I didn't know about announcements. I use Pronto to send quick reminders (such as when student/office hours are starting, events, etc) but announcements look interesting. How do announcements look on a student’s end?
Jim Julius (he/him)
45:56
Folks can join our MiraCosta faculty Pronto Practice course if you would like to experience Pronto in action: https://miracosta.instructure.com/courses/25949
Jim Julius (he/him)
47:20
I do need to run a synchronization after folks join the course - I'll do that in a couple minutes. Then you should have access a couple minutes after that.

Have you circumstances when the whole class does not participate in Pronto? If the whole class is not in Pronto, do you complement Pronto with Canvas Announcements and Inbox and Zoom to try to give the same experience to the whole class?
Jim Julius (he/him)
49:52
I have just synced the Pronto Practice course if anyone just joined. You should be able to access Pronto for that course now -
Lauren Luker
50:42
Thanks Jim!
Michelle Odom
51:04
Does it mean that any “student” can have the same level of usage (creating groups, making announcement…) as any “instructor?”
curry mitchell (he/him)
51:05
This is a really good question, Polo. It's important to think about how students are receiving and missing info based on these tools. That includes email and Canvas announcements. This is a convo we should continue to have
Polo Mariscal
52:02
Thank you 😊
Jim Julius (he/him)
52:07
Polo, it is important to note that students can use Pronto directly from within Canvas. They don't have to download Pronto to be able to use it.
curry mitchell (he/him)
52:12
Thanks Angela. Those are awesome ideas and practices
Polo Mariscal
52:30
Great thank you everyone
Angela Beltran-Aguilar
53:19
@Polo: I have a "communication plan" that is part of the syllabus and explains my availability and what to use for what (canvas discussions/pronto for math questions, canvas inbox for private questions, etc)
Angela Beltran-Aguilar
54:06
I also have an “About Pronto" page in one of my orientation Canvas module which students can always go back to for reference

I use the Modules each week for the lectures. I will still need to use those, correct?
Polo Mariscal
55:28
@Angela this is awesome. Thank you for all information my head's gear is rolling 🙂
Serena Mercado
56:03
That's cool

Good to “see” everyone, I have to get going 👋🏽

Nice, thank you :)

Do you have a quick instruction video that you recommend of how to use Pronto that we can share with our students?
Polo Mariscal
01:02:13
😊I can check it out, thank you
Jim Julius (he/him)
01:02:14
https://tic.miracosta.edu/pronto/ has some student-facing resources but not an official Pronto video
Polo Mariscal
01:02:30
